For seventy-five years we’ve had the great privilege of serving you,
the American military. In 1942, America was in a struggle.
The nation felt sucker punched by the attack executed nearly
six months previously, and was still working to recover. Many of
America's finest from the Greatest Generation joined the military
effort in World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters.
Even some of Hollywood's biggest names joined the effort to fight for
America -- Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Henry Fonda just to name a
few. Regardless of where they came from, one thing was certain,
these brave service members craved a touch of home; to feel a
cultural connection to our country that they were sacrificing so much
to serve. The War Department responded, Hollywood lent its full
support and on 26 May 1942, the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS)
was born.
